'The Attfield Theatre Company Limited' is based in its own little 99 seat theatre within The Guildhall, an imposing 19th Century building dominating the skyline of Oswestry, a small market town in the Marches or borderlands of England and Wales. Although it has been part of Wales many times in the past 1200 years, Oswestry is in Shropshire, one of the largest rural counties of England.
The Attfield Theatre Company has been around, in one form or another, since 1928 (see History page) and thanks to many, many hard working members has flourished.
People like 'Atty' or 'Mr. Attfield', one of the
founder members after whom the theatre and company are named; Miss 'O.P.' Jones,
Secretary, Chair and President for many years; Mr. Fred 'Dickie' Dickinson, a
long time Chairman and President;
Mary Durman, the longest standing member of
the group who is still active on the committee and can be seen, coffee jug in
hand, at every performance;
Philip 'Pip' Chambers, our erstwhile President and ex
Treasurer who offers wonderful support to everything we undertake;
Christine Hughes, appointed Vice President at the 2004 A.G.M. in recognition of her 19 years at the helm when she steered the 'Arts Club' through many triumphs to the new millennium and the formation of 'The Attfield Theatre Company Limited'. Christine has long been a force in drama all over the County and beyond, being an adjudicating member of 'YODA',
the national group which governs the adjudication of play festivals, as well as
continuing today as the Attfield's representative on 'The Little Theatre
Guild of Great Britain' of which the Attfield is proud to be a long standing
member.
In recognition of her dedication Christine was appointed to replace the retiring Pip Chambers as Honorary President in 2007.
The other Vice President appointed in 2004 is Lilian Pryce Jones who has been a member for many a long year and who has never failed in her support of the cause.
Our third and most recently appointed Vice President is Ruth Evans who gave her all for the Attfield and won more acting awards than anyone else in the company. Ruth recently retired to Spain with her husband, Pete.
The list goes on of people who have tirelessly given of their time,
enthusiasm and not little talents to build sets, produce, act, make costumes,
set the lights, organise, renovate, paint, decorate - in fact whatever it takes
to keep a theatre alive and well over all those years.
